No. Just go up to the juveniles and press F. Though keep in mind some of the pets are in higher level areas so you can't really get them now. Well, you can but I wouldn't recommend it because you will probably die a lot. Best to just wait until you are the right level for the zone. However, good news is many very good pets are in the starter areas.

Taming Pets. I haven't played in a while, how do I tame a pet as a ranger because I heard the button is F but I've kinda changed my controls around. What exactly button would that have been? It's the interact button, same button you use to talk to NPCs and interact with objects.
Pet swap. Pet swap is a game mechanic available to the ranger which allow switching between the two selectable pets. If the ranger has his pet hidden by using Stow Pet, entering combat will trigger a pet swap (which in turn triggers any pet swap linked traits) that will not induce the recharge timer. The recharge timer of pet swap is 20 seconds.
