First, check the roof and gutters for clogged gutters. In case they are full, water will begin to seep through. Also, take a look at the attic for dripping water. Next, check if there’s a bulge or dark spot hanging from the ceiling. If it’s dripping, it’s likely that water is collecting in that area.
To minimize further water damage I tied a towel around the pipe to temporarily catch the rain water. This is only a band-aide solution: Roof Vent Leak: Towel Tied to Vent Pipe to Catch the Water. An alternative is to place a pan on the drywall ceiling under the PVC vent pipe elbow to catch the leak.
Permanent Fix. A small patch can act as a permanent EPDM roof repair for leaks and cracks. Apply an EPDM primer and when touch-dry, add self-adhesive rubber tape 3” around malleable flashing covering the hole. The patch should be adhered from the centre (over the hole) outwards with a firm, hard roller.
To begin, perform a thorough inspection of your RV, inside and outside. Look for soft spots in the walls, ceiling, and floor, and see if you can spot where the drips are coming through. Next, get a ladder and look at the roof. Many RV roofs are not safe to walk on, especially if they have been weakened by water damage.
